Hanging with a Hero

We've all been asked the question, "If you could have lunch with anyone alive today, who would it be?"  We've got our heroes and people that we look up to and would be genuinely shocked if we ever got a chance to sit down and spend some intimate time talking with them.

Max got to do that today.  

For the last week, he's been traveling with a buddy in the San Francisco area - shooting pictures and seeing the sites.  Everything managed to line up just right and he made contact with John Sexton who lives in the area.  They had lunch together today and talked about photography, photographers and all sorts of wild and wonderful things.

John Sexton was a technical consultant to Ansel Adams before Adam's death in 1984 and is an incredible black and white photographer in his own right.  I know that some of his prints have inspired much of the stuff that Max shoots.  It's not difficult to fall in love with the way this man sees the world when you spend time looking at his photographs. 

These are just a few of the glorious images that John Sexton has produced.  We are fortunate enough to own several of his prints and I can easily get lost in the photographs.

Today, Max got to meet and spend time with a long-time hero of his in the world of photography.  They shared stories and talked about how photography is changing.  Both of them grew up in darkrooms and have plenty to discuss as they talk about how digital cameras are changing the face of this skill.  But, more than anything, this was a dream come true for Max.  Such a simple thing - lunch, such a profound moment.

I've been thinking about who it is that I would like to spend a few hours with over lunch one day.  I have some ideas ... what about you?
